Another great year for the real estate market... New construction projects continue to dot the city landscape, while the resale market had maintained its health as well. As evidence, the median resale price of homes in Chicago appreciated by around 13% in 2005 according to the National Association of Realtors.

The real estate market should remain strong in 2006 as well thanks to a continually improving job market and mortgage rates that are still exceptionally low, floating just above 6%. Since rates may climb closer to 7% by this time next year, buyers who act early in the year will be able to afford more home for their money, and sellers who list in early 2006 will likely appeal to these motivated buyers looking to take advantage of the favorable interest rate environment.
